Shift: Moving to learning that drives performance
No matter what sector you work in, there are two words that will be at the forefront of senior leadership thinking: performance and productivity.
Without doubt, in people development consulting I am living my passion.
When I look back over the 30 years of my career, I’ve always had a track record of helping people become better at what they do. Transformation can be challenging but having spent six years working in an organisation empowering people to recover from addiction, I have experience in supporting radical change, and it’s not hit or miss. I know that helping personal transformation is one of the most powerful and important things we can do.
We spend a lot of our lives at work. If we improve the working environment, capability, and productivity to help people succeed – then it’s life-changing for those involved and transformational for the organisations in which they work.
I also know what it takes to achieve organizational change. More recently, I spent 10 years leading learning at the Chartered Institute of People Development (CIPD), spearheading the creation of learning solutions for all areas of the ‘people profession’ together with an award-winning team of 38 professionals and 120 subject expert associates. I also led the innovation of digital products, including CIPD’s online Learning Hub, which expanded development opportunities to learners in over 180 countries.
Whether I’m working in a large commercial company, a non-profit organisation, or giving a presentation as a headline speaker, I still, after all this time, know it’s a privilege to work alongside the organisations who are investing in their people and embracing learning that drives performance.
